Waterproof North West

This partnership project between the The University of Manchester and Mersey Basin Campaign used the process of scenario planning to identify the challenges and opportunities that could impact on delivery of the Water Framework Directive in England’s North West. Four contrasting scenarios were used to enable better planning and decision-making with regards to the future management of the region’s water environment.  2030 was the timeframe for the scenarios to complement a similar set of scenarios developed by the Environment Agency. Working with the scenarios was participatory in nature and involved a range of stakeholders. This proved an effective way of drawing individuals and organisations into a collaborative planning process.
